In parallel with the exhibition of works by Georges Mathieu, La Monnaie de Paris invites various street artists to create in situ through an exhibition, Graffiti x Goerges Mathieu, on view from April 11 to September 7, 2025.
Attention street art fans! La Monnaie de Paris hosts the exhibition Graffiti x Georges Mathieu: Geste, Vitesse, Mouvement, from April 11 to September 7, 2025. The exhibition puts the work of painter Georges Mathieu and urban art practices in dialogue, bringing together several generations of graffiti artists in the Monnaie’s galleries. An opportunity to explore the links between painting and graffiti.
Theexhibition, conceived in parallel with the retrospective devoted to Georges Mathieu, focuses on the echoes between his work and that of urban artists. Characterized by “signature signs”, rapid execution and public performances, Mathieu’s work has marked several generations of artists. Among them, figures such as JonOne, Lek & Sowat, Nassyo, Camille Gendron and Matt Zerfa have been invited to confront their practice with the painter’s drawings, which they have selected themselves. An introductory section puts Mathieu’s and graffiti’s historical works into perspective.
Curated by Éric de Chassey, with artists Lek & Sowat. Active since 2010, Lek & Sowat explore the limits of traditional graffiti by combining destructured typography, ephemeral installations and videos. Alongside artists such as JonOne, an emblematic figure of the New York graffiti scene, and Camille Gendron, whose painting is rooted in the dynamics of aerosol, the exhibition offers a varied panorama of contemporary practices.
