Sean “Diddy” Combs — who was arrested and indicted on sex trafficking charges, among others — is facing serious prison time if found guilty.

On Tuesday, September 17, one day after his arrest, the 54-year-old rapper pleaded not guilty to the three charges against him: racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking by force, cause or coercion and transportation to engage in prostitution charges. Diddy (real name: Sean Combs) will be sent to jail to await his upcoming trial, after Judge Robyn F. Tarnofsky denied the Bad Boy producer’s request for bail.

Per the 14-page indictment revealed on Tuesday, Diddy allegedly created “a criminal enterprise whose members and associates engaged in … sex trafficking, forced labor, kidnapping, arson, bribery and obstruction of justice.” The alleged racketeering and sex trafficking began in the early 2000s, according to the documents.

A press release from the U.S. Department of Justice broke down each criminal count against Diddy — and how much prison time he could serve if found guilty on each.

In September 2024, the disgraced rapper was arrested and indicted on multiple charges relating to sexual assault, sex trafficking and more. Here’s how much time he can face in prison if convicted.

The hip-hop mogul was “charged with one count of racketeering conspiracy, which carries a maximum sentence of life in prison; one count of sex trafficking by force, fraud, or coercion, which carries a maximum sentence of life in prison and a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years in prison; and transportation for purposes of prostitution, which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.”

All in all, if convicted on every charge, Diddy would spend at least 15 years in prison — with the possibility of a life sentence.

CNN legal analyst and former prosecutor Elie Honig noted that it’s the “sex trafficking by force, fraud or coercion” count that is an “extraordinarily serious charge.” According to Honig, because this is a federal prosecution against Diddy — not a state prosecution — the charges “carry higher penalties, higher potential sentences.”

In addition to the criminal charges against the hip-hop mogul, there are also multiple civil suits against him from women accusing him of sexual assault. In November 2023, he settled ex Cassie’s rape lawsuit against him; earlier this year, graphic footage from 2016 showed him physically assaulting the singer in a hotel.

Diddy’s attorney Marc Agnifilo told reporters Tuesday that his client is “going to fight this with all of his energy and all of his might.”
