Hip Hop culture has managed to reshape the music scene over the five decades it has existed. Thanks to her, new styles and production techniques were introduced, and today it is a global phenomenon, present in almost all parts of the world and in different languages.
The previous year was all about hip hop, as the whole world celebrated half a century since the founding of this direction, which included numerous events, concerts, exhibitions and forums around the world, which celebrated its rich history and lasting influence. These celebrations recalled key moments and figures in the development of hip-hop, as well as its ability to inspire and unite people from different backgrounds. Rappers from Montenegro were also very active, recording singles and albums, and the NGO MAK also wants to contribute to the promotion of hip-hop in 2024 and organize a concert “Hip-hop 20+50” on Saturday, July 1 at the Itaka club. ” where rappers from Podgorica will perform Wicked Ras, Ronaldo Maximum, Shtulla i Lerdifon and the Budva composition of the Radio Catacombs. Montenegrin rappers will also have guests from Serbia at this event: Synovitis, Edit Šnostra i Eli Jane.
Founder of NGO MAK Damir Ibisevic believes that Montenegrin rappers progress year by year, and it was his goal to support the authors through this concert.
“Our scene is growing year by year. We already have serious contractors who can be compared with other Balkan countries. What is crucial now is that the producers are also good, which is confirmed by the fact that many of them have been working with rappers from the entire Balkans for years,” Ibišević believes.
Hip-hop played a key role in shaping fashion, language, and general culture, especially among young people, and the interlocutor of “Vijesti” believes that today’s rappers need to pay more attention to the messages that their songs carry through their lyrics.
“I expect that we will only progress further, but I would like to see the emphasis on author’s work in the future, and to have more events and gatherings like this. I have to say that this is the first planned concert dedicated to hip-hop, and this time I chose performers who have been on the scene for years and collaborated with me, or rather performed at the events I organized. Given that I know their potential, I expect their performance on Saturday to be at the world level, because Montenegro deserves it. However, it is important to persevere because hip-hop is a great love. All the performers who will perform somewhere belong to classic rappers because they belong to that old school of hip-hop”, explains Ibišević and adds that trep, who is currently popular in ex-Yu spaces, “transcends the boundaries of that honest hip-hop” story.
“Even in America, which is the cradle of hip-hop, trep managed to squeeze out the classic story, text, point, and even the rebellion that was the main characteristic of this direction. However, in our country, not only in Montenegro but also in the Balkans, it has turned into an even uglier side because it brings bad texts, messages, boring repetition… It seems to me that all flashes look alike, but we hope that this is short-lived breath and that with the help of a good production, the performers will return it to where it was in the 90s and at the beginning of this century. I am of the opinion that most trep performers will not be remembered for their expression, because it is repetitive. That’s why everyone who wants to hear good rap should join us on Saturday, the program starts at 20 pm, and the entrance is free”, says Ibišević.
