Legendary hip-hop producer Rodolfo Franklin, AKA DJ Clark Kent, has died aged 58.
Franklin had been battling colon cancer for three years, his family wrote in a statement shared to Instagram last Friday, October 25th. “It’s with deep sadness that we share the passing of the beloved Rodolfo A. Franklin, known to the world as DJ Clark Kent,” the post read. “Clark passed away Thursday evening surrounded by his devoted wife Kesha, daughter Kabriah and son Antonio.”
Franklin worked with and produced music for a slew of big names, including Jay-Z, 50 Cent, Rakim, Estelle and Mariah Carey. He began his career in the ’80s, working for clubs around New York. He later gained wider attention for his remix for Troop’s “Spread My Wings” and work on the track “Player’s Anthem” by Junior M.A.F.I.A. and The Notorious B.I.G. More recently, he was credited as a co-producer on Kanye West and Lil Pump’s “I Love It.”
