Youth participants in the Crimson Coast Body Talks workshop are getting ready to share their creations with an audience after two weeks of creativity and storytelling.

A show on Saturday, March 29, will showcase hip-hop dance and forum theatre while telling stories and amplifying voices of Indigenous and allied youths, according to a news release from Crimson Coast Dance.

Director Renae Morriseau said the performance is not just a show, but a call to action.

“Throughout the rest of the week we will be conjuring story based on bullying and what that represents to the young people that are participants and they will create a forum theatre presentation on Saturday which will present the challenges with hopes the audience will come up and find solutions,” she said.

Forum theatre engages the audience to explore solutions and tackle challenges. It is an interactive style of theatre that focuses on lived experiences to tell a story.

“This type of theatre is activated by the witnesses, the audience participation in the story itself and so I hope the audience comes with that in mind in hope that they can see what’s presented and to be on the pulse of positive change for the future,” Morriseau said.

She said the youth participants go through a series of exercises to help them draw from their own experiences on the issue of bullying.

“I think anytime that you open a safe space to do that, us adults learn a lot – in not so much what our projections are for young people, but to enable their voice to take the lead in articulating what our hopes are for the future,” she said.

The Body Talk Hip Hop Pow Wow 2025 will be at the Snuneymuxw gym at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 29. Tickets can be purchased from http://crimsoncoastdance.com.
