HYDERABAD: With the rampant use of DJs (disc jokeys) for different events and religious processions defying police orders, Hyderabad police have decided to organise a round table conference with all stakeholders to implement the ban. Performance of DJs at public places, without prior police permission, is prohibited. The rule applies to all religious processions, political rallies, marriages, and other events held at public places.
This issue has always been a point of confrontation between key participants in the procession and police, who book criminal cases against those who defy their order in arranging DJs.
Even during preparation for the recent bandobust for a religious event, police, in their guidelines, said that “use of manual music with DJ on vehicles will not be permitted”.
Similarly, earlier this year, police in a notification said that “No loudspeakers/ DJ shall be placed or played in public space or public place, without the required permission from the concerned police authorities as per Rule 8 of Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000 and provocative speeches/ songs shall be played over them.”
Even if they are permitted, the permissible decibels were defined as per GO RT NO 227.
However, for the last several years, there has been defiance of the police order by many organisers from different communities. In reaction to this, Hyderabad police commissioner CV Anand, in a tweet, said: “We are working on having a round table with all the organisations behind these festivals and the political parties to discuss and ban DJs, in letter and spirit. Fortunately, everyone is positive about it. Will let you all know the details soon.”
In response to this message, many users reacted on ‘X’, asking police to control the sound, besides some sharing their experience of helplessness to the continuous music belted out by DJs.
