INDIANAPOLIS — There’s a little less graffiti across Haughville right now, thanks to members of the community and Metro Police.
13News has previously shared about the graffiti problems they’ve experienced in the area.
On Wednesday, IMPD’s 32nd Recruit Class, academy training staff, members of Haughville Strong and the community joined their forces to clean it up.
“It is a problem for the community, it’s a problem for us,” said IMPD Cmdr. Nikole Pilkington. “For us, graffiti means it’s a precursor to other things. It could lead to other activity, criminal activity in the area, and so we want to make sure that once it goes up, we get it down and then we catch those offenders that are doing it.”
The IMPD contingent met up at the Kroger on Michigan Street across from the Southwest District headquarters around noon before teaming up with community members. Then they moved to various places along 10th Street to for the clean up.
In March, police said two juvenile suspects were being held in connection with vandalism at a Haughville church. A public police report indicates the two arrested are a 16-year-old girl and 17-year-old boy. Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears announced the juvenile suspects had been formally charged with one count each of felony institutional criminal mischief.
