Letter: Stronger consequences needed for offensive graffiti

Anyone driving through Portland has to see the massive amount of graffiti blighting the city. It was reported last week that a major contributor to the offensive “artwork” was arrested. The question now is what kind of punishment will he receive? In too many cases, the penalty isn’t severe enough to act as a deterrent.

Perhaps the city should offer a monetary reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of persons found defacing public property. The “artists” could be fined enough to cover the reward. If the reward was substantial, it might promote even friends of the perpetrators to turn them in to authorities.
