Malicious graffiti targeting singer BoA has been spotted across central Seoul, causing shock and anger among fans. The slanderous messages — filled with hateful slurs — were found on digital billboard pillars, bus stops, and building walls, sparking public outcry.
On June 10, eyewitness accounts flooded online communities reporting that offensive graffiti aimed at BoA had been discovered in various locations throughout downtown Seoul.
One user posted,
“On the way from Gangnam Station to Sinnonhyeon Station, I saw a lot of graffiti cursing BoA on billboard columns — there were so many. This is shocking. Isn’t this property damage?”
Another user replied,
“I saw it in the middle of Yeoksam-daero too.”
Confirming that this was not an isolated incident.
Graffiti bearing phrases such as “SM BoA AIDS” and “SM BoA Syphilis” was found on pillars, bus stops, electrical boxes, and even alley walls in Gangnam. These malicious writings are being condemned as acts of criminal defamation and vandalism, potentially subject to legal punishment.
Reports continue to pour in:
“I saw it myself. I couldn’t believe my eyes,”
“I confirmed it near Gangnam Station bus stop,”
“I saw ‘SM BoA’ written in the alleys of Gangnam.”
One netizen even claimed to have seen a middle-aged man with long hair and shabby clothing roaming alleys and repeatedly scribbling graffiti targeting various celebrities.
In response, BoA’s fans have taken matters into their own hands. Some are voluntarily removing the offensive messages from public spaces late at night.
One fan shared,
“I want to stand guard all night if I could. I just hope BoA never has to see this.”
Another fan reported the graffiti to SM Entertainment’s KWANGYA 119, a platform created for protecting their artists’ rights, as well as to Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO). The utility company reportedly responded that the graffiti would be removed “within a few days.”
Online users have reacted strongly:
“This is clear defamation and property damage,”
“Catch the perpetrator using CCTV,”
“Why are they doing this to BoA?”
As of now, SM Entertainment has not released an official statement regarding the matter.
