A man convicted of killing an Albany hip-hop artist was sentenced on Thursday to up to life in prison.
Tyshaun Purvis, 32, shot and killed Dominique Eley in Albany in July 2022 near North Pearl Street and Livingston Avenue.
Eley performed all over the East Coast and also created youth advocacy programs in Albany.
Purvis was convicted in May of second-degree murder, criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a controlled substance.
Purvis received a sentence of 25 to life in prison on the murder charge. He also received other sentences that will run consecutively on weapons and drugs charges as well as a sentence for a different crime out of Rensselaer County Court. He will spend at least 40 years in prison.
