Hip-hop star Megan Thee Stallion filed a request for a restraining order Tuesday against imprisoned rapper Tory Lanez, claiming the man convicted of shooting at her feet in the Hollywood Hills in 2020 is harassing her from behind bars.
Megan Thee Stallion, whose real name is Megan Pete, contends that Lanez — real name Daystar Peterson — is orchestrating a harassment campaign against her, conspiring with “bloggers” who post what she claims are defamatory statements about her on social media, questioning the veracity of her claims against Peterson and the evidence that was presented at his criminal trial.
Peterson was convicted in December 2022 of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, having a loaded unregistered firearm in a vehicle and discharging a firearm with gross negligence. He was sentenced last year to 10 years in prison.
Megan Thee Stallion testified during the trial that Lanez shot her during an argument on July 12, 2020, following a get-together at Kylie Jenner’s home. She claimed that Lanez told her to “dance,” then fired at her feet.
In court papers filed Tuesday in Los Angeles Superior Court, Megan Thee Stallion’s attorneys claimed that Lanez “continues to harass, bully and antagonize Ms. Pete from prison, by and through his use of third-party online `bloggers,’ who Mr. Peterson employs to spread defamatory statements about Ms. Pete.”
The document points specifically to a blogger named Elizabeth Milagro Cooper, saying she has “published several false statements about Ms. Pete and the criminal trial.” The paperwork includes copies of multiple social media posts by Cooper. The attorneys also contend that Lanez has paid Cooper thousands of dollars through his father.
Megan Thee Stallion sued Cooper in federal court earlier this year, accusing her of defamation.
A hearing on the request for a restraining order was tentatively scheduled for Jan. 9, according to court records.
