NBA YoungBoy Receives Federal Prison Sentence On Weapons Charges

YoungBoy Never Broke Again has been sentenced to federal prison on weapons possession charges.

On Tuesday (Dec.10), Variety confirmed that the Baton Rouge rapper, born Kentrell Gaulden, received a sentence of 23 months behind bars. The sentence stems from a 2020 arrest in his hometown, where he was filming a music video with 15 other individuals.

During the incident, authorities discovered NBA YoungBoy in possession of two firearms: a 9 mm handgun and a .45-caliber Glock. Over a dozen additional weapons were also recovered from the scene. In addition to his prison time, the rapper will be required to serve five years of supervised probation after his release.

The case was a significant chapter in NBA YoungBoy’s ongoing legal troubles. In August, the rapper pled guilty to one count of gun possession, but his legal team sought to have the case moved from Louisiana to Utah.

This motion was granted, streamlining the numerous charges he faces across multiple states. Currently incarcerated in Utah, YoungBoy faces six charges of possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person, as well as charges related to a pattern of unlawful activity stemming from a May 2023 arrest.

His sentencing also takes into account the time already served since his May arrest, meaning he could be released in approximately 12 months, according to his legal team.

NBA YoungBoy’s criminal history includes various other charges, such as procuring or attempting to procure drugs and prescription medications, identity fraud, forgery, and possession of controlled substances.

The rapper’s ongoing legal issues have yet to stymie his musical success, as he’s released multiple albums that have debuted atop Billboard 200 albums chart over the past several years.

His latest album, I Just Got a Lot on My Shoulders, was released on Dec. 6.
