LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – A new dance studio on Avenue J is giving kids in Lubbock the chance to explore their talents, regardless of their financial situation.
The Collective Art Studios opened its doors this month, offering classes in hip-hop, ballet, tap, jazz, and even a free fitness class on Saturdays.
Founded by Stephen Sanders, a long time Lubbock resident, the studio’s mission is to provide accessible opportunities for underprivileged youth who may not have access to expensive extracurricular programs.
“This is really a way for you to dream through your feet… Dream through dancing,” Sanders said. “We have to give our kids an opportunity to make better decisions on what they do on their time.”
The studio serves children ages 2 through high school, with 25 spots currently open. Monthly classes are $50, but Sanders stresses that no child will be turned away due to financial constraints.
“We are going to take care of them. We are not going to turn any kids down. We will not do that,” he said.
Sanders hopes to create a lasting impact in the community, teaching kids not only dance but also valuable life skills.
The Collective Art Studios is now accepting new students. For more information, visit their website or stop by the studio on 1108 Ave J.
