Reports have surfaced that Sean “Diddy” Combs is on suicide watch following his recent legal troubles.

An insider revealed to PEOPLE that the hip-hop mogul has been placed under close observation on suicide watch while he’s held at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center awaiting trial.

The rapper and music producer was arrested on Monday, September 16 in Manhattan, New York after Homeland Security’s raids on his plush pads in Beverly Hills and Miami earlier in March.

The 54-year-old is now behind bars awaiting trial, slapped with charges including racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking, and transportation to engage in prostitution. The music bigwig saw bail denied for the second time by a judge in a Manhattan court on Tuesday, as reported by The Mirror US.

Diddy’s legal team dangled a whopping $50 million bond in front of prosecutors, but this was rejected. Diddy has vociferously denied all allegations against him and has entered a plea of not guilty to all charges.

On Wednesday, September 18, Diddy’s lawyer Marc Agnifilo revealed that his client was being kept in the special housing unit, which boasts an “extra layer of security.”

He had lobbied for Diddy’s transfer to a New Jersey penitentiary, however, the judge left the final call to the Bureau of Prisons. The MDC’s special housing wing keeps inmates away from the general jail population.

Since the Bureau of Prisons shuttered Manhattan’s Metropolitan Correctional Center in 2021, the jail has served as the main federal detention facility in New York City .Reports of frequent lockdowns, violent outbursts and an increase in stabbings have also dogged the MDC, which had housed rapper R. Kelly. MDC has been claimed to be “hell on earth” and an “ongoing tragedy.”

Diddy’s legal team acknowledged the poor conditions in a motion for bail filed on Tuesday. They wrote: “Just earlier this summer, an inmate was murdered. At least four inmates have died by suicide there in the past three years.”

Ghislaine Maxwell was detained at the facility in 2021 following accusations of child enticement and underage female sex trafficking. Her attorneys said that while she was incarcerated, she had been malnourished, was balding, and could smell overflowing toilets. Michael Cohen has also done time at the facility.
