Pam the Bird has been getting up for the last year in Melbourne, Australia. From road signs to skyscrapers, the infamous cartoon character gained a cult following, resulting in more than 75,000 followers on Instagram.
On January 30, Pam’s wings were clipped. 21-year-old Jackson Gibson-Burrel was charged with 50 crimes related to being the artist who drew Pam the Bird on everything from a Novohotel to the Flinders Street Station clock tower. 39-year-old Matthew White was also charged with 20 criminal damage offenses for aiding and abetting Jackson.
The problem, as it always is with graffiti, is that Pam the Bird was also defacing property. The police have said the duo has caused more than $100,000 in damage and that Jackson was a notorious vandal with a mission to keep his rep high in the local graf community by abseiling from rooftops to paint Pam.
Hopefully, the judge will be lenient when sentencing Jackson since his character is loved by many in Melbourne.
