A community art installation has been unveiled in Plymouth city centre as part of an ongoing campaign to transform neglected spaces.
The People’s Gallery was orchestrated by Plymouth Artists Together (PAT) and comprises of 80 paintings installed on hoardings opposite The Box Museum.
The group helps produce legal street art in public spaces with the support of Plymouth City Council.
Mike Vosper, the founder of PAT, said it was “important to show art is for everybody”.
‘Public interaction’
He said: “The council contacted PAT to see if we could do something useful with the space.
“We came up with the idea to create The People’s Gallery, having already done something similar down on Union Street.
“Sometimes these people don’t get the chance to showcase their work because they haven’t got enough to rent out a gallery and some people just want to paint for the love of it.
“If they can put their painting outside for the public to interact with then it’s great.”

Mr Vosper said the project had attracted participants aged from six to 88.
“It’s all different art,” he said.
“It’s the people’s gallery for the people of Plymouth.
“It’s a way for them to showcase their work, it’s a broad range, every picture is good and there’s something for everybody.”
Mr Vosper said the plan was for the art to be displayed for the same duration as the hoardings remain up.
