Philadelphia is in the running for Best City for Street Art in USA Today’s 10 Best Readers’ Choice Awards, and people can help it win by voting every day until February 17, 2025, at noon ET.

This competition includes 20 cities across the country, but Philly’s impressive collection of murals and long history of public art make it a strong contender.

The city is currently in third place, but it could move to the top with more votes.

The winners will be announced on February 26, 2025.

For over 40 years, Philadelphia has been where art is plastered everywhere.

Because of the work of Mural Arts Philadelphia, Philadelphia has more than 4,000 murals on its walls, buildings, and roofs.

This program started in 1984 to stop graffiti and has since become the largest public art program in the country.

The special thing about Philadelphia’s street art is that the local people are involved to the fullest extent.

Many murals, designed with input from local residents, tell the stories of neighborhoods, honor important people, and represent the city’s diverse culture.

Between 50 and 100 new murals are added every year, and it honestly makes Philadelphia feel like an outdoor gallery.

That said, the rivalry is intense for Philly this year.

Cleveland, Ohio, has more than 300 murals, many of which are in Ohio City and Gordon Square.

Denver, Colorado, is famous for the River North Art District (RiNo), where colorful murals fill alleyways and old warehouses.

Miami, Florida, has the Wynwood Walls, a world-famous collection of murals that turned an old industrial area into a major art destination.

Other cities in the contest include Atlanta, Georgia, where projects like Living Walls and the OuterSpace Project have helped turn the city into an art hotspot.

Chicago, Illinois, has murals in places like Pilsen, Logan Square, and Wicker Park, covering everything from train stations to entire buildings.

Los Angeles, California, has legendary murals in the Arts District, Hollywood, and Venice Beach.

New York City, a longtime leader in street art, with hotspots in Bushwick, Harlem’s Graffiti Hall of Fame, and the 100 Gates Project in the Lower East Side.

Nonetheless, what makes Philly stand out from the rest is its deep connection to public art.

Unlike some cities where murals are mostly commercial or temporary, Philly’s murals are part of the city’s identity.

One of the most famous projects, A Love Letter for You, consists of 50 murals along the Market-Frankford Line, turning a subway ride into an art tour.

Other must-see pieces include “We the Youth,” a mural featuring Keith Haring’s artwork, and “Common Threads,” a giant, realistic mural at Broad and Spring Garden that has become one of the city’s most iconic pieces.

Right now, Philly is holding onto third place, but with daily votes, it could take the top spot.

Anyone can vote once a day until the February 17, 2025 deadline.

The winner will be revealed on February 26, 2025.

For anyone who loves Philly’s murals—whether it’s a longtime resident who sees them every day or a visitor who was amazed by the city’s art—this is a chance to help Philadelphia get the recognition it deserves.

Every vote counts, so now is the time to show support and help make Philly the Best City for Street Art.
