Police are investigating after graffiti spelling out “no whites” and “no whites allowed” was sprayed in three locations in Birmingham.
The slogans were painted in white along two stretches of wall on Alum Rock Road, one outside a primary school, and also on Farndon Road.
Community activist Naveed Sadiq, from Bearded Beys, said the lettering first appeared on 22 August and was removed by the city council the following day.
West Midlands Police said it was checking CCTV footage and carrying out patrols in the community.
Mr Sadiq said local residents cleaned the wall outside Shaw Hill Primary School, on the corner of Alum Rock Road and Anthony Road, last Thursday after “no whites” was daubed on it.
The following day, he said the council found “no whites allowed” written on Farndon Road, and “no whites” further down Alum Rock Road, opposite Langton Road.
He said the council removed all slogans on Friday, and he reported the matter to police.
Mr Sadiq added he thought the graffiti was an attempt to provoke racial tension, which local residents would not tolerate.
“We will not allow anyone to bring disharmony to our community,” he said, adding “everyone is welcome”.
Birmingham City Council said it removed racist graffiti within 24 hours.
A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: “An investigation is under way to identify who is responsible, and we are carrying out CCTV inquiries.
“We are in contact with the community and will be carrying out patrols in the area.”
