R. Kelly Drops Remix Of Chris Brown’s ‘Residuals’ From Prison

R. Kelly has participated in the viral “Residuals” challenge, despite being behind bars.

Started last month by fellow R&B singer Tank, the challenge consists of people performing their own verse to Chris Brown‘s song of the same name, with the likes of Mario, Jacob Latimore and Boyz II Men’s Shawn Stockman all getting involved.

A surprising late entrant for the challenge is convicted child sex offender R. Kelly, who put his own spin on Breezy’s 2023 hit over a prison phone call.

The audio, which was posted online by Kelly’s producer and collaborator Rodney East, finds the disgraced singer hitting out his incarceration as well as those in charge of his finances.

“They’re still selling my music, making all this money / Don’t even send shit to my folks for commissary / Though I’m in this place, I know I don’t deserve this / There’s questions on my mind / There’s questions on my mind,” he sings.

Kellz adds: “Tell me who, who’s getting all my checks? / Where is my money at? / Tell me who, who’s getting paid for my grind? / All of that’s supposed to be mine.

“Who gave you 34 years? / Who made you billions of dollars? / Who put the R in R&B? / I swear that it’s killing me in my cell, making me holler, dammit.”

In his Instagram post, East confirmed that it was indeed R. Kelly’s voice, writing: “Big Bro Decided 2 Pull up On The Challenge. No AI, The Real Deal… IYKYK. Voice Is Definitely Missed Out Here.”

In a recent interview from behind bars, R. Kelly claimed to have written 25 albums’ worth of music while incarcerated.

Phoming into the podcast Inmate Tea with A&P, the “Ignition” hitmaker revealed he’s still sharpening his songwriting and singing talents while serving his decades-long prison sentences for sex crimes.

“I’m always singing, I’m always writing,” he said. “I’ve written like 25 albums since I’ve been in here.”

Kelly also claimed that his legal fight isn’t over, despite having multiple appeals rejected by the courts, claiming that pieces of evidence were inadequate and that the law was applied inaccurately.
