Zain ‘Ziggyx4’ Allie has a new style of rap.
FAST-RISING hip-hop sensation Ziggyx4 says jail has changed him.
Growing up in the violent streets of Manenberg, Cape Town, the rapper, whose real name is Zain Allie, was exposed to violence and drugs, which eventually landed him in prison.
However, this challenging experience brought a major change for him.
Ziggyx4 told Daily Sun seeing himself behind bars and handcuffed changed his perspective on life, and he started to rap.
During his debut EP titled Gangsta Baby celebration on Thursday evening, 14 November, at the Opera Lounge in Rosebank, he said he aims to bring pride to his community by rapping in Afrikaans.
About rapping in Afrikaans, Ziddyx4 said that it was intentional and aimed at teaching kids in his kasi in a way they understand.

“It’s the support, me being authentic to myself. That’s my rule all the time. I can’t rap in English to the boys in my hood. I won’t be inspiring them, and they won’t take me seriously. I had to do it my way because we’re gangster babies. We came from the streets, and I have to do it our way,” he said.
“It’s a better way for me to elaborate to them, but if I did it in English, it wouldn’t be where it is now.”
Ziggyx4, who began his music career after being released from prison in October 2023, credits jail for turning his life around.
“Jail inspired me. It made me change. Being handcuffed, treated badly by the police changed my mind. Finally, I made a decision that’s not my life,” he said.
About the message behind his music, Ziggyx4 emphasised that his goal isn’t to change people but inspire them.
“I don’t want my music to change people. They can change by themselves. I just want my music to influence people to change. I can’t change anyone but can influence them to change. I’ll be a hypocrite if I tell a boy in the street to stop selling drugs when I did the same thing. However, I can influence him not to do it,” he said.
