Rapper Sean Kingston’s luxury home in Florida was raided by authorities on Thursday morning, and his mother was taken into custody on fraud and theft charges, according to multiple reports.
An attorney told NBC Miami that the raid was related to a February lawsuit he filed against Kingston – real name Kisean Paul Anderson – accusing the rapper of hoarding luxury goods that he never paid for, including a $150,000 television sound system and $1m in watches.
Aerial footage of the raid showed SWAT team members and officers from the Broward County Sheriff’s Office descended on the mansion in Southwest Ranches, which is reportedly being rented by Kingston, which had several expensive cars parked outside.
Officials later confirmed the singer’s mother, 61-year-old Janice Turner was taken into custody on numerous fraud and theft charges, NBC reported. Ms Turner was pictured being led away from the scene in handcuffs.
“He likes having bling, he likes showing off, he’s a showman,” Dennis Card told the outlet.
“My client has a $150,000 television sound system that’s in there, there’s also about $1m worth of watches that are in there, there’s a $80,000 custom bed that was ordered. This is an organized systematic fraud.”
Mr Card added: “He’s 100 percent a scammer, he’s on felony probation right now for trafficking in stolen property, he’s got judgements against him for procuring more than $1m in watches without paying for them. This is just an ongoing pattern for Sean.”
Kingston, 34, had some major hits including his 2007 debut single “Beautiful Girls.” He’s previously collaborated with stars like Justin Bieber and Soulja Boy.
This is a developing story. More to follow.
