Cape Town-based dance crew Sublime are the dancing queens of the hip hop scene! They have won the Hip Hop Unite World Championships for a second time; making South Africa rich with pride:
Obidos, Portugal (01 November 2024) — Senior Cape Town-based hip hop crew Sublime knew that they were gunning for gold this year.
When the crew told Good Things Guy that they wanted to make South Africa proud again in 2024, it wasn’t wishful thinking. It was a promise and a plan of action that the dancers delivered on in full following a huge success in Obidos, Portugal late last month.
Sublime—a crew of dancers over 35—recently won the Hip Hop Unite World Championships for a second time, making them the official dancing queens of the hip hop scene once again.
It was hardly an easy feat, both in terms of competing and raising the funds to attend the competition.
But, where there’s a will, there’s a way. And this way led the all-female crew to a golden reminder of just how talented they are by global standards—standards that were no easy feat.
“We faced strong competitors who had prepared intensely,” shared Head Coach Corinne de Beer.
Corinne explains that the competition deals in the business of serious pressure, especially when you have a title to defend. Despite the strong competition, Sublime knew that they had focused enough on physical and mental prep to give Obidos their all—and so they certainly did.
Corinne’s junior crew, Regulate, also did superbly and made it all the way to the semifinals.
Needless to say, they’ve got an incredible crew to look up to thanks to Sublime’s impressive track record.
A big congrats to Sublime (Simóne Hepburn, Terri Le Roux, Courtney Allison, Sarah Rennison, Jacinta Richards and Chantal McClure), head coaches Corinne de Beer and Duane Lawrence who were also choreographers along with the legendary Rudi Smith.
