The artist, known only by the moniker Disney, has spray painted stencilled artworks in various locations across the county.
The most recent stencilled artwork by the artist includes a child wearing a respirator mask, which appeared on the side of Angel Place car park in Bridgwater.
Disney hails from Birmingham and is inspired by the “injustices happening around us in local communities, from social deprivation to youths losing their lives to knife crime.”
The street artist also uses artwork to mark important events in the UK’s history. Disney is often mistaken for Banksy, the Bristol-based pseudonymous street artist, who hosted the Dismaland temporary art project in Weston-super-Mare in 2015.
“My mind is always active to what is going on around me and how I can interpret that through art to get a point across or just to put a smile on peoples face, so people culture and society is my inspiration”, Disney said.
Disney says they are motivated by street art, which they say has the power to “make people smile on a mundane Monday morning on the way to work.”
Somerset is one county the artist has regularly visited, spray painting onto the “boring” walls of car parks, public toilets and derelict buildings.
“I do seem to travel down south just to get out of Birmingham; I go wherever my art takes me. I do not have a preference where I paint places seem to call out to me.”
But the artist does recognise that not everyone appreciates the artwork, with claims it constitutes graffiti and vandalism.
“I do understand that graffiti and street art is not seen in the same light for some and for others, but all in all, I do seem to get a decent response for my art.”
“Though I do still agree it is vandalism, and I shouldn’t really be doing this”, Disney added.
The street artist confirms his artwork on an Instagram account with 49,000 followers, with the handle @Disney.b32
