The Birmingham Public Library, Springville Road Library Youth Department, Birmingham City Council District 1 (Clinton Woods) and Black Warrior Riverkeeper are collaborating to present a hip-hop program promoting conservation and recycling next week.
Shaheed & DJ Supreme, who performed last Friday, March 14, in BPL Loud at the Library’s Punk Show at the Central Library, will perform a free concert, “Conservation Collaboration with Shaheed & DJ Supreme,” on Wednesday, March 26, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Springville Road Regional Library, 1224 Springville Road.
Join us at the Springville Road Regional Branch for a special program about conservation and recycling! Learn about how to keep our waterways clean. Hear a story & play a game! Enjoy a lively hip-hop performance! FUN FOR ALL AGES!
Charles Scribner, executive director of Black Warrior Riverkeeper, said he is excited about next week’s latest partnership with Birmingham City Council District 1, BPL and Shaheed & DJ Supreme.

“Black Warrior Riverkeeper has enjoyed countless collaborations over the years with Shaheed and DJ Supreme, Birmingham City Council District 1  and the Birmingham Public Library,” Scribner said. “I am so excited that these four distinct partners will soon join forces all at once, under the same roof, free to all!”
At the roots of hip-hop—now a global phenomenon that speaks words of hope and compassion to people in their own language—are guardians of its precious gem of simplicity. Shaheed and DJ Supreme are two such sages, reminding future generations that all you need to tell your story are your rhymes and a rhythm to run it through. The timeless duo from Birmingham, AL keeps it real, using hip-hop to spread wisdom through their multiple LPs and live performances alongside acts like Scarface, Jurassic 5, Atmosphere, The Jungle Brothers, and more.
Also Shaheed and DJ Supreme are the first Hip Hop Artist to work with The Alabama Symphony Orchestra. Over the years, they’ve rep’d Alabama under the Communicating Vessels label while promoting community-based initiatives through their non-profit K.R.U. (Knowledge, Rhythm, and Understanding).
