The 5 Christian Hip-Hop Artists Kendrick Lamar Should Name-Drop Next

image

This week, Kendrick Lamar surprised the Christian hip-hop world when he name-dropped Lecrae and Dee-1 in his new song.

And since the mention is shining a new light on the booming Christian hip-hop scene, here are a few more artists Kdot should maybe consider mentioning in his next track:

Caleb Gordon

Probably the Christian rapper with the most momentum right now is Orlando-based Caleb Gordon. The independent artist has had an amazing year, headlining tours, gaining over a million monthly Spotify listeners, and dropping features with artists like Forrest Frank and Hulvey. (Kendrick, if you want to get to know Gordon better, you can check out our conversation with him on The RELEVANT Podcast.)

Nobigdyl. is redefining what it means to be a Christian hip-hop artist. His production, thoughtful lyricism and unique style make him stand out on the scene. But don’t take our word for it — that’s why this year he won the Fan Favorite award from NPR’s national Tiny Desk contest. Plus, how many independent Christian artists can say they’ve started their own music festival?  Nobigdyl. doesn’t miss, and people are noticing.

Marty

One-half of Social Club Misfits, Marty has stepped out on a solo journey and is making some of the most original music in Christian hip-hop today. His recent album Flop Era Vol. 1 blends his original, high-energy vibe with amazing production and some much-needed honesty and authenticity. Plus, his tongue-in-cheek humor makes him loved by his fans and, yes, listeners of The RELEVANT Podcast, where we’ve roped him into joining the cast.

Jon Keith

The San Diego-based rapper describes himself as a champion for the lonely and searching. Keith’s music blends hip-hop, pop and R&B and truly stands out on the scene due to its raw honesty. “The presence of God doesn’t mean the absence of pain or heartbreak,” Keith said. “But He gives us hope in the midst of those things … that’s what I want my music to do, point people to hope in Jesus through stories of life, love and loneliness.”

Alex Jean

The Orlando-based artist (what’s in the water in Orlando?) is exploding on the scene right now. Only 23, Jean was a professional guitarist for over 10 years, and that versatility and musicality is evident in his unique sound.
