‘The key to giving back’: DJ DEMP celebrates 27 years of DEMP Week

In celebration of what has become a Tallahassee “proclaimed holiday” and tradition in honor of DJ DEMP’s birthday, the legendary DJ and founder of “DEMP WEEK” is honored to present an exciting lineup for the 27th Annual DEMP Week.

DEMP WEEK is a week-long festival of events that is a celebration of life, culture, and community.

The event began as a birthday celebration for DJ DEMP, who is a member of the legendary group Ghost Town DJs, most known for its classic hit record, “My Boo.”

DEMP Week continues to elevate the art and culture of Tallahassee by bringing new artists from every genre to the city. This celebration attracts thousands of attendees each year and highlights the capital city in a positive and progressive way.

DJ DEMP, founder of “DEMP WEEK” is honored to present an exciting lineup for the 27th Annual DEMP Week starting Jan. 8, 2024. He received the Key to the City of Tallahassee on Jan. 9, 2023, his actual birthday.

For almost three decades, DEMP Week has been at the epicenter of music, culture, and philanthropy, inspiring, uplifting, and bringing the community together through music.

“The music resonates with Tallahassee because it’s a universal language that brings the city together for one common cause: to have fun! This year is extra special. This is the 27th year for me and a huge milestone for everyone to come together and celebrate,” DJ Demp said.

Sir Isaac leaps over DJ Demp during the slam dunk contest during the celebrity basketball game for Demp Week 23 on Friday, Jan. 10, 2020.

“I received the Key to the City of Tallahassee on Jan. 9, 2023, which is my actual birthday. I am excited to celebrate that major accomplishment along with the City of Tallahassee’s Bicentennial Anniversary. I only see greater things for DEMP Week and its growth in the years to come,” DJ DEMP said.

The 27th Annual DEMP WEEK is full of exciting events like the celebrity basketball game, anti-bullying rally, hip-hop symposium, and All-Black Affair hosted by Grammy Award Winning Artist MONICA!

DJ DEMP also continues to utilize DEMP WEEK as a platform to champion social causes by raising awareness and support for issues like anti-bullying for at-risk youth, and education on addiction recovery.

DJ DEMP’s efforts to give back can be seen regularly through his foundation, the DJ DEMP Foundation, a nonprofit organization with the mission to improve outcomes for at-risk youth and young adults through education, advocacy, and mentorship, as well as through DEMP House, his transitional living home, with the mission to provide transitional housing, education, and resources to individuals in recovery from addiction.
