The Prison Tapes Are Something New and Extraordinary

After listening to Tory Lanez “Prison Tapes”, there will be no regrets. They are a series of songs that have been released from prison this past summer. Lanez and his team decided to release new songs while he is incarcerated. His songs have received tons of feedback with fans of his music thinking, “How is the quality of these songs that good?”

“Cell 245” opens with a prison phone call recording in which Lanez reflects on his struggles, past experiences with violence, and his drive to maintain resilience while incarcerated. The track hits hard with Lanez’s confident delivery over a gritty beat.

In contrast, “Wish I Never Met You” showcases his emotional side, exploring the regrets of a toxic relationship over an Afrobeats-infused melody. The lyrics have sparked speculation about whether Lanez was referring to his ex-wife or past relationships, adding personal intrigue to the music. The songs show off his prestige hip-hop/R&B skills. Out of all the songs he released in prison, this song was possibly the best so far. The song has a great ring to it and when I first heard it, I had this song on repeat and I still do.

For those who might be curious about how this is even possible, Lanez’s engineers played a huge role in his songs. Some people think there is a studio in prison, that he has a phone, or that his engineer sends him the beat and Lanez records his vocals over that.

Not only did Lanez release these singles from prison, but he also released a series of songs titled “Lost Tapes.” The “Lost Tapes” have a similar album cover to the “Prison Tapes” cover. The best song in the “Lost Tapes” series is titled, “Someone Else.” The song showed off his R&B skills and gave fans the same flow as one of his best albums titled, “Alone at Prom.”

As a die-hard Lanez fan, the songs he released from prison made me burst with joy. His flow with words makes the listenerhave a deep appreciation of his music.

Why is Tory Lanez in prison? On Aug. 20, 2020, rapper Megan Thee Stallion accused Lanez in an Instagram Live video of shooting her in the foot several times, after a pool party at Kylie Jenner’s house in mid-July. Megan and Lanez got into an argument in the car, and Lanez began shooting her foot when she exited the vehicle. An internet feud happened on twitter when Lanez was being accused from both of their fan bases. Megan underwent surgery from the injuries she sustained. She also claimed that Lanez’s team was attempting to spread false information about the shooting. “Yes, this n- – – – Tory shot me,” Megan said in the video. According to TMZ, Megan initially stated she injured her foot from stepping on broken glass. An article by Vulture said, “When Lanez was arrested, it was on a charge of carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle — not for allegedly shooting Megan. Now, Lanez is charged with one felony count each of assault with a semiautomatic firearm — personal use of a firearm — as well as carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle.” Once the trial started in 2022, Lanez pleaded not guilty to all charges but was found guilty and was sentenced to 10 years in prison. As of today, Lanez is still in prison.

As a Lanez fan, I follow him on Instagram, and unfortunately his team decided to stop releasing “Prison Tapes.”His team announced they have more projects that they want to work on, meaning they are hinting his next album. His past three albums were amazing, starting with “Alone at Prom,” “Sorry 4 What,” and “Alone at Prom (Deluxe).” The fans had waited so long for the deluxe and once it came out, it took the internet by storm. People discussed his songs and their favorites all over the internet. The deluxe was a throwback call to the main album and fans loved it.

When I first got into Lanez, it was around 2018. I was not a huge fan of his until around 2021-2022. My friend showed me the album “Alone at Prom” and showed me the best song fromthe album titled, “The Color Violet.” Once I heard that song, I fell in love with his music. I started to listen to the whole album and fell in love with that as well. The album showcased his vocals and his R&B style. Most of the songs in “Alone at Prom”were samples from older and other songs. This album showed me to appreciate his music and to see how versatile he is. If someone has never listened to Lanez and wants to find new artists, feel free to search him up and listen to his songs. Lanez’s music is available on YouTube, Spotify, Soundcloud and Apple Music. You might even find a new favorite song.
