The Source |Museum Of Graffiti To Honor Juneteenth With New Mural Depicting Freedom Through Music

In honor of Juneteenth, the Museum of Graffiti will unveil a striking new mural on June 19 that pays tribute to freedom through the powerful language of music. Located at the corner of NW 25th St. and NW 3rd Ave on The Art of Hip Hop Building in Miami’s vibrant Wynwood Arts District, the mural is a collaboration between acclaimed local artist 1DER and his fine art mentor, Mwanel “1-L” Pierre-Louis.

The mural captures the spirit of resistance, resilience, and liberation, offering a vibrant visual narrative that honors Black history and expression through the lens of sound and culture. It stands as the latest public art initiative from the Museum of Graffiti, which continues to spotlight underrepresented voices in the world of graffiti and street art.

To mark the unveiling, the Museum will host a public artist talk beginning at 5:00 PM on Juneteenth, providing attendees with a rare opportunity to hear directly from the artists about their creative process and the mural’s cultural inspirations.

Following the unveiling and artist discussion, guests are invited to continue the celebration a few doors down at KYU, a popular Wynwood destination known for its Asian-inspired cuisine and expertly crafted cocktails. From 6:00 to 8:00 PM, KYU will host a special reception featuring exclusive drink specials created for the evening.

“This mural isn’t just art—it’s a celebration of freedom, expression, and legacy,” said Alan Ket, co-founder of the Museum of Graffiti. “We’re honored to partner with 1DER and Mwanel to share this visual narrative with our community, and deeply grateful to our neighbors at KYU for partnering with us to recognize the importance of supporting artists and cultural storytellers.”

The mural unveiling will take place at 299 NW 25th St., with the reception at KYU located nearby at 251 NW 25th St. The evening promises a meaningful fusion of art, history, and community, rooted in the ongoing celebration of Juneteenth’s enduring significance.
