Tory Lanez is reportedly recovering following a violent and near-fatal stabbing that took place inside a California prison earlier this week. Sources close to the incarcerated rapper told TMZ that while the incident was severe, Lanez’s condition has stabilized, and he is now breathing and speaking on his own.
Following the attack, Lanez was initially transferred to a medical facility in Bakersfield for urgent treatment. Within days, he was moved back to the prison’s medical unit once his condition improved. His attorney, Jose Baez, issued a statement to the media expressing cautious optimism.
“Tory is upbeat,” Baez shared. “He’s in good spirits. He is recovering. He is a strong young man. He’s expected to make a recovery.”
The suspect in the stabbing has been identified as Santino Casio, a fellow inmate with a known history of violence behind bars. Casio is currently serving a life sentence with the possibility of parole for a series of violent crimes, including murder and attempted murder. He has since been placed in restricted housing while prison officials conduct a full investigation into the incident. No charges have been filed in connection with the attack as of yet.
Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, reportedly suffered 14 stab wounds across his back, torso, head, and face during the assault. Both of his lungs collapsed as a result, requiring him to be placed on a breathing machine immediately following the incident.
Lanez is currently serving a 10-year prison sentence for the 2020 shooting of rapper Megan Thee Stallion, an incident that gained widespread attention and prompted national debate over violence, accountability, and justice in the music industry.
