90’s nostalgia, graffiti, and pop culture inspire the Los Angeles-based artist’s signature style

San Pablo references scenes of everyday life in his artwork to evoke ideas about identity, beauty, and humor while entwining darker themes of authority and classism. By blending nostalgia with cultural critique, he explores identity and everyday life through a playful yet thought-provoking lens that illustrates his experience growing up in California in the 90’s. He is heavily influenced by The Simpsons, Peanuts, The Sopranos, sports legends, meme culture, and even Larry David, which he translates into vibrant works using colored pencils and oil paint. For his Timeless Artist Legacy collaboration, San Pablo features the infamous ‘S’ symbol penned in the notebooks of schoolkids across the nation, which served as his gateway into graffiti, alongside surreal elements like cartoon smoke and UFO abductions, reflecting themes of escapism and cultural perspective.

Cartoons were my gateway into art, I’d watch TV and see Super Mario or Sonic and try to draw them.”
