Tory Lanez was rushed to hospital after being attacked and stabbed 14 times by a fellow inmate at the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi and remains hospitalized, according to news officials.

A post on his verified social media on Monday shared that Lanez, who was born Daystar Peterson, was “stabbed 14 times- including 7 wounds to his back, 4 to his torso, 2 to the back of his head, and 1 to the left side of his face. Both of his lungs collapsed, and he was placed on a breathing apparatus. He is now breathing on his own.”

“Despite being in pain, he is talking normally, in good spirits and deeply thankful to God that he is pulling through,” the post continued. “He also wants to thank everyone for the continued prayers and support.”

The 32-year old Canadian born rapper is serving a 10-year prison sentence for shooting fellow hip-hop star Megan Thee Stallion, whose legal name is Megan Pete. He was found guilty on Dec. 23, 2022 of three charges for shooting and injuring Pete as they left a party on July 12, 2020 in Hollywood Hills.

According to news reports, Pete testified during the trial that after leaving a party at Kylie Jenner’s Hollywood Hills home with Lanez, he fired a gun at the back of her feet and ordered her to dance after an argument.

Lanez was charged in October 2020 with one felony count each of assault with a semi-automatic firearm (personal use of a firearm) and carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle, according to news reports. He was also charged with a felony count of discharging a firearm with gross negligence.

He pleaded not guilty to all three charges, continued to maintain his innocence and his lawyers appealed his conviction. In May 2023 he was denied a motion for a new trial.

During his sentencing hearing, an impact statement from Pete was read in which she said, “He not only shot me, he made a mockery of my trauma. He tried to position himself as a victim and set out to destroy my character and my soul.”

It is currently unclear what motivated the attack.

The Office of the Inspector General was notified of the incident, and an “investigation has been initiated by CCI’s Investigative Services Unit and the Kern County District Attorney’s Office.”

Lanez is a Canadian singer, rapper, songwriter and record producer with popular, award-winning albums such as I Told You (2016), Daystar (2020), Alon At Prom (2021), Lost Cause (2014) and The New Toronto 3, among others.
