Kampala, Uganda – Get ready for the ultimate celebration of Ugandan hip-hop culture! The inaugural Yenze Hip-Hop Festival is set to take place on June 28, 2025, at the Cricket Oval Lugogo in Kampala.
Announced during a press conference at the Kampala Sheraton Hotel, the festival promises to be a groundbreaking event that merges music, art, dance, fashion, and technology to create an immersive experience like no other.
“We’re excited to create a platform that celebrates hip-hop culture in all its forms,” said Geoffrey Jeff Ekongot, one of the festival organizers. “From music and performances to art, fashion, and technology, we’re pushing the boundaries of what a hip-hop festival can be.”
The festival will feature a star-studded lineup of local and international artists, including Ugandan hip-hop legends and emerging talent. Fans can also look forward to live freestyle battles and cyphers, DJ turntable takeovers, and immersive hip-hop culture zones.
But it’s not just about the music. The festival will also include interactive digital spaces, gaming and dance battles, and ‘gram-worthy’ installations inspired by hip-hop history. Industry professionals and entrepreneurs will also have the opportunity to engage with the festival through music and business masterclasses, beat-making and production labs, and a startup and creative market.
“I am looking forward to witnessing the Yenze Hip-Hop Festival and what comes out of it. I just want it to uplift all of us,” said Lagum The Rapper.
The festival is expected to inspire emerging rappers, poets, dancers, and hip-hop entrepreneurs by offering mentorship, exposure, and resources. As Jeff Ekongot noted, “Every tribe in Uganda has elements of hip-hop ingrained in its heritage: Graffiti echoes tribal paintings, B-boying mirrors traditional dance, and rap and poetry find their roots in Bitontome and Kwivuga.”
The festival will serve as a unifying platform, bringing together artists, industry leaders, and fans from diverse generations and backgrounds. “If we worked together, people would not say that hip-hop is dead. The problem we have in Uganda is that people don’t want to work together,” said King Hanny.
Tickets for the festival are now available, with prices starting at UGX 30,000 for regular tickets and UGX 1,000,000 for VIP tables.
