For the first time, the Théâtre du Châtelet is hosting a festival dedicated to the hip-hop movement from October 10 to 13, 2024. On the program: breaking, DJing, rap, graffiti and cinema, to discover this increasingly represented art form.

From October 10 to 13, 2024, the Théâtre du Chatelet will be hosting a brand new festival: Urban Châtelet! For the first time, a festival dedicated to the hip-hop movement will be held at this legendary theater in the 1st arrondissement of Paris. The festival’s program offers a chance to discover the plurality of the hip-hop movement in the art world. Expect to see breaking, DJing, rap, graffiti and cinema.

The Urban Châtelet festival kicks off on Thursday, October 10 at 8pm at the Théâtre du Châtelet with a show by the ExpéKa collective. Born of a meeting between percussionist Sonny Troupé and rapper Casey at the Africolor festival ten years ago, the collective is now inventing a new genre, linking Creole and rap.

On Friday, October 11, the Urban Chatelet urban culture festival will be honoring Vicky R and Le Juiice, two female rappers known for their participation in Reines, pour l’amour du rap or five women conquering French rap, in the show Proses, Volume I. At the Théâtre du Châtelet, the rappers were invited by pianist and composer Issam Krimi to create a show combining classical music and rap.

Make way for cinema on Saturday, October 12, with a screening of Ladj Ly’s Les Misérables , released in 2019, at the Théâtre du Châtelet. And to round off Urban Châtelet, what could be better than a dance battle? On Sunday, October 13 at 4pm , the Battle Pro Finale Internationale will take place, with 100 international dancers competing for the title that has become a benchmark on the international Breaking scene.

This first edition of Urban Châtelet at the Théâtre du Châtelet is dedicated to fans of the hip-hop movement, but also to those curious enough to discover innovative, original and hybrid artistic creations!
