Bangor, Northern Ireland – A vibrant new mural in Ward Park, Bangor, has achieved global acclaim after being ranked 6th in the world in the Street Art Cities ‘Best of March’ Awards. The monthly competition, hosted by the international street art platform Street Art Cities, highlights the top murals across the globe, with over 80 submissions competing for the honour in March alone.
A Tribute to Community, Nature & Colour
Painted by renowned street artist Danni Simpson in collaboration with her fiancé and fellow artist Karl Fenz, the mural brings a bold and colourful energy to Ward Park, directly across from the Carnegie Library and beside the soon-to-be-completed Dementia Sensory Garden.
“They wanted something that reflected the vibrancy of the park, its wildlife, and the community,” said Danni.
“I was inspired by the ducks, the history of children playing with boats in the waterways, and the park’s atmosphere over time.”
Global Recognition from 88 Nominees
Danni’s mural was selected from 88 shortlisted entries to be ranked 6th, placing Bangor on the global map for street art.
“It’s honestly surreal,” she said. “To have a mural in Bangor recognised on a global stage is such an honour. I put so much heart into that wall. Seeing it resonate with people beyond Northern Ireland is incredible—not just for me, but for the local art scene as well.”
Making Art for Everyone
Originally from Australia, Danni is now based in Belfast, her mother’s hometown. Known for her work across cities around the world, she believes murals are about “capturing the spirit of a place” and making art accessible to all.
“I’ve painted murals in urban spaces across the globe—always with the goal of celebrating local identity,” she added.
In Northern Ireland, Danni is also a featured artist at the Hit the North Street Art Festival, a flagship event that brings top-tier street artists to Belfast’s Union and Kent Streets each year.
“It’s a brilliant festival that energises the city and fosters collaboration among global creatives,” said Danni.
What’s Next for Danni Simpson?
With more projects on the horizon, Danni revealed her next mural will debut at Hit the North 2025, followed by several summer art installations.
“I’m always planning new projects. I can’t wait to bring more colour and creativity to new spaces. Stay tuned!”
