A new documentary series on DJ Mehdi is out now.
The six-parter DJ Mehdi: Made in France is being hosted by European culture channel Arte and chronicles the career of the influential French producer who was known best for his association with the seminal Ed Banger label.
Directed by writer and filmmaker Thibaut de Longeville, the series features personal videos and unpublished archives, “filmed from adolescence until the tragic death of his friend,” reads the Arte blurb.
“This tribute draws the portrait of a virtuoso who passed away too soon, a young DJ whose mixed heritage still infuses today,” it continues.
DJ Mehdi, real name Mehdi Faveris-Essadi, died in an accident in 2011 at the age of 34. He was celebrated for his merging of hip-hop and house, releasing a couple of albums via Ed Banger in the noughties and amassing a string of other tracks and remixes.
