Who killed Run-DMC’s Jam Master Jay? New trial to solve 20-year mystery
During the 1980s heyday of Run-DMC, the trailblazing hip-hop DJ Jam Master Jay helped to take rap music mainstream and his influence over the genre had since been compared to that of Chuck Berry on rock’n’roll.
A little over a decade later, however, the star, born Jason Mizell, was struggling financially and acted as a middleman trafficking cocaine across America.
It was the 37-year-old’s involvement in the drug trade, prosecutors say, that led to his death in 2002, with his two former friends standing trial for murder in New York this week.

The trial, at a federal courtroom in Brooklyn, could finally explain why one of the most influential artists of his era was killed in cold blood.
